Dime, Quarter, and Fiddy Cent Boxes at the Card Show

I went back to my local card show for the first time in a couple of months today.  The last time I went, I was a deer in headlights -- I didn't know what I wanted, what I was looking for, or where to begin.  Thanks to this blog and generally getting more organized now, I went into today's show with a purpose.

My purpose was simple: get to the dime boxes and augment my Brewers collections.  On that note, I did very, very well: I added about 35-40 Ryan Braun cards, about 10 Prince Fielders, maybe 8 Jean Segura cards, and another 20 Rickie Weeks cards.  Throw in 8 Yovani Gallardo cards and stir.

These cards are nice cards too, and none of them cost me more than 50 cents -- lots of Topps Chrome and Bowman Chrome, for instance:

Some inserts from some recent Topps base sets too:

And even some nice inserts that weren't Brewers:

There wasn't a ton of older stuff in the dime boxes today at the show, but I did find one reasonably decent card of a Hall of Famer from 1978 in the dimers:

It is a little rough around the edges, but it's tough to turn down a 1978 Topps card of any kind for a dime. And this is Andre Dawson!

All in all, I was pleased with the trip.  I lost track of time in the dime boxes for a good hour -- I started to wonder why I was so hungry, then realized that I'd spent nearly 2-1/2 hours going through these dime goodies.

A lot of the same characters come to the three shows run by the same promoter in the North Atlanta area, so if you have any recent chrome/inserts you'd like for me to watch for, let me know -- I'd be happy to do it, since it gives me a reason to go back again!

  1. A '78 Andre Dawson for a dime is an awesome deal. Nice finds!

    1. I totally agree. Also bought but not pictured are: an Andrew McCutchen gold Topps from last year (SN 1306/2013), a Frank Thomas Jimmy Dean sausage card from 1992, a 1980 Topps Robin Yount (I've got like 4 but I couldn't resist) and a 2010 Tim Lincecum Topps Chrome. I think the McCutchen was a quarter, but everything else was a dime. I loved it!
