eBay Wins, I've Had a Few

Unlike Frank Sinatra, I've had too many eBay wins to mention.  That's good and bad.  It's good because I've gotten a lot of cool cards and plugged a few holes in my collection.  That's bad because it means I've been spending a bunch of money plugging a few holes in my collection.

What have I won lately?

I'm not going to try to find a theme for this post tonight.  I could -- I mean, I could probably figure out a theme for just about anything I post here -- but I'm on the downslope to this week and my brain is fried.

So, let's just bring out the cards.

First, I've been stockpiling some vintage stuff.  To me, vintage pretty much means pre-1977, and that's because that is when I started collecting.  The cards I have gotten are not in pristine condition, to be sure, but they are in decent shape and they are cards I did not have before.  I paid a grand total with shipping of $24 for these cards plus a bunch from 1975-1980, some of which I had and others I didn't.

That, friends, is a haul -- and for not much more than a blaster costs at Target.  It's an easy comparison to make, and these are certainly cards I like more than yet another Topps Heritage card of Marco Scutaro's bald head.

Another group of fun things came when I won a bunch of auctions of one of my favorite sellers on eBay, wfbookman.  The reason this guy is one of my favorite sellers is because he is a Robin Yount collector who is liquidating parts of his collection.  To be fair, I'm sure that his auctions are a bit pricier than the one-off folks who have things other than Yount.  But, the fact that this guy is selling so many different Yount items (and other Brewers stuff too) at the same time actually might lead to somewhat lower prices because people pick and choose things more.

At least that's what I tell myself.

In one of his auctions, wfbookman had a pretty decent-sized group of the 6-card panels that were inserted in Dyn-o-mite magazine in 1978.  A bunch of them had collecting interests of mine, and I got all of them for under $1.50 each:

And that, folks, is just the beginning.  Like I said, I've spent a lot on eBay.  I've spent enough to put it over a few posts.

  4. When I have eBay stretches like this I usually get the dreaded "you've been getting a lot of mail lately" comment from my wife.

    1. I heard that exact line about two weeks ago. My wife will say, "hey, it's your money, spend it how you want." What she means is, "what in the hell are you spending our money on?"
