An eBay Win, with Instant Buyer's Remorse!

I've been staying away from eBay lately. Earlier this year, I spent far too much time looking at as many Brewers cards as I could find on there -- particularly Robin Yount cards -- and ended up spending a bunch of money getting cards.

Now, I don't regret having spent that money, but I do regret that I didn't do more research before I purchased some of those cards. I probably could have saved some money by being smarter, shopping around, comparing prices, and looking a little deeper for the cards I ended up buying.

The same, though, can be said for a recent purchase.

In the wake of the All-Star game, a number of cards that seem to have been given out or sold as a part of the Fan Fest with the game have hit eBay. One of the items that came out was a 5"x7" set of the starting lineups for the All-Star Game. I haven't gotten my hands on a Jonathan Lucroy as of yet -- I'm close, though -- but I did get one of my other PC member to start the game:

This is printed on cardboard stock -- like the Heritage cards -- with a blank back. It's a pretty damn cool looking item. I mean, my non-card-collecting wife saw this card and said, "Wow, that's pretty awesome."

So I felt validated.

Has anyone else taken the plunge with their PCs or their team collections on these 5x7 cards?

And, another question: Topps has released a number of team-specific items this year that have been available for either a limited time, in limited numbers, or both. Has anyone gone after these - other than those Major League cards of Ricky Vaughn and Roger Dorn and Jake Taylor?

Thanks for reading, and I look forward to your comments!

  1. I've tried picking up the Altuve but am always outbid. I have quite a few of the jumbo Diamond Kings from the 90s which lay flat on top of cards in a monster box. The Kings have done well over the years w/o more protection. Great pick up tho - it is a great looking card!

    1. I like this card too. I have never seen those Jumbo DKs, though -- that's in my "dark period"!

  2. I have the 2014 Orioles team set that came out earlier this summer. I think it's one of the products you are referring to. Blogged here.

I also have one of the Brooks Robinson wall art 'poster' sort of cards they put out. Too big to scan.

    1. That's right -- I remember seeing that on your blog. I got that Robin Yount for Mayor wall art "poster" card myself -- and that's been it so far for me.

  3. I get all those emails from Topps with those limited production over-sized sets, or metal wall art, or who knows what else, being offered. Haven't bit on any of it yet and most likely won't. They'd be more likely to get some of my hobby money if they released any of those as standard sized cards.

    1. I get all those e-mails too. I look at what they have, and say no almost all the time. It doesn't hurt that they don't have the Brewers in most of that stuff.

  4. Outside of the Major League cards, the only other set I picked up was the Oakland A's 1974 Series 2 Pack set. One of my favorite cards of all-time is the 1974 Topps Rollie Fingers and now I'll have an 8.5" x 11.5 copy of it. Oh wait. I also bought a 1974 Oakland A's Archives Collection Box off of eBay for 50% off of their website price. It came with a pack of cards too. As crazy as it sounds... I actually wanted the cool shirt, hat, and pennant from the box.

  5. There is a Goldschmidt version of the All-Star card that I've looked at a couple of times, but it was always too pricey for me.

  6. I bought the same set the Commish did for the RedSox. I now get at least two emails a week about new limited addition issues. Haven't bought anything else
