A Milwaukee Card Show!?

Am I too late to talk about a trip I took in June? Well, I am going to talk about it anyway.

My wife had decided to go to an out-of-town event in Charlotte on the first weekend of June. For a while, I had been thinking about going up to Milwaukee for a card show. I mean, after all, if you are a Brewers collector, where are you most likely to find people who have gathered a ton of Brewers cards?

It sure isn't Atlanta.

I looked at the Brewers schedule and saw that they were at home against the San Diego Padres. I decided to go for it--booked a flight, a hotel room, got a ticket to the game 15 rows behind home plate and got my stuff together to be gone 24 hours in Milwaukee.

As it turned out, my wife started not feeling well on Thursday--summer cold, and not having an immune system thanks to the immunosuppressant drugs she is on for her organ transplant--but she insisted that I go to Milwaukee. After the excitement I had built up in my head already, I was not going to argue with her about that.

So I got up early on that Saturday morning, threw a light change of clothes into a rolling bag with a couple of card boxes, and headed up to Milwaukee.

The card show was excellent. I had put a note on the Facebook page for the show saying that I would be flying in from Atlanta for the show and that I was looking for police cards. The coolest part of that was that the first two sellers inside the door had paid attention and brought a bunch of police cards along that I needed.

Here's a photo of what I got:

As you can see, I got a bunch of stuff. Tons of 90s team sets, a bunch of police cards that I did not have, and some other oddballs like this 1992 High 5 Reusable Decals sheet:

As I said above, I also went to American Family Field for the game between the Brewers and the Padres. I found a single seat pretty much directly behind home plate.

It was fun to see a Brewers-Padress games for a few reasons. First, Brewers fans still hate Manny Machado:

Some of you will remember that the reason for this is that, back in the NLCS in 2018, Machado hit a ground ball to shortstop. As he hit first base, he kicked the big man at first, Jesus Aguilar:

The other fun part of this to me was a call back to literally 18 years ago. I was tired of driving back and forth to Augusta for a case. I do not like Augusta. So, to treat myself, I decided to go on a trip to some place I had not been at that time. Looking for that excuse, I looked at the Brewers schedule and saw that they were playing against San Diego at Petco Park.

Just as I found a seat behind homeplate in Milwaukee this year, I got a seat behind home at Petco:

Throwback to the days of Bill Hall playing for the Brewers

It was definitely a fun trip overall for me. I was in and out very quickly, and I can see myself doing this again in the future for a card show up there to load up on Brewers that I can't find here in Atlanta.
