Charlie Moore Collection (5/26/2018)

Charlie Moore is fifth all-time in games played with the Milwaukee Brewers at 1283, behind only fellow 1982 teammates Robin Yount, Paul Molitor, Jim Gantner, and Cecil Cooper. Moore was never a particularly great hitter, he was never an all-star, and he was never considered a star by any measure.

What he was, though, was a kind, gracious man from Birmingham, Alabama. He was drafted out of high school in the fifth round of the 1971 draft with the 97th pick overall. By 1973, he was in the major leagues. His ability to adapt to the outfield allowed him to continue playing regularly from 1981 through 1984 while the Brewers had Ted Simmons behind the plate.

He finished his career as a member of the Toronto Blue Jays in 1987 when the Brewers moved on to having up-and-coming (and hopefully a star) B.J. Surhoff take over behind the plate. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel named Moore as the catcher on its All-Decades Team as the catcher for the 1970s.

I have a total of 84 Charlie Moore cards/items depicting him on the Brewers. I count autographs that I obtained from Moore separately from those cards that are not autographed if I have one of each.
